Session 3: Learning about Artists of Color

In this session, students will learn about artists who come from a variety of racial, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and explore ideas of self and diversity in their artwork. Students will read about various artists, learning about their techniques, materials and tools. Students will take inspiration from their styles and their lives as they create their own works that explore their own identities.

Time: 9:30–10:45am Pacific Time, daily
Ages: 6–10 year olds

Materials:

  • Watercolors
  • Watercolor paper
  • Canvas board
  • Water soluble oil paints
  • Brushes (big, medium and little)
  • Cup for water
  • Drawing paper
  • Colored chalk pastels
  • Drawing pencils
  • Black pen
