Session 1: Portraiture and Activist Art

Students will learn to draw faces by observing facial proportions as they create self and family portraits. They will learn about artists like Frida Kahlo as well as contemporary portrait artists who created their own stylistic portraits. They will learn to apply observational as well as abstraction skills in their work. Later in the week we will look art made with the intention for social change. They will use their portrait drawing skills to create activist artworks depicting people who are making positive changes in the world!
